Sailaja has lived with Prurigo Nodularis (PN) for almost 20 years, enduring a nine-year rollercoaster of a diagnosis journey. She is the founder of the only global patient led charity, Prurigo Nodularis International. Outspoken and determined, Sailaja wants to see the PN patient community receive the care and dedicated treatments that they all need and deserve, on par with patients of mainstream conditions.
A passionate patient advocate, expert and leader, Sailaja is able to leverage and transfer a deep and broad skill-set gained from a lengthy career in the financial services industry, including roles in investment banking and the Bank of England, to her patient advocacy. She regularly collaborates with the rare disease community, industry and with other partners in key cross-cutting initiatives, this includes among others her roles in Health Technology Assessments, educational initiatives, providing her expertise to clinical trials and as a working group member of the Rare Disease Research Network.
Nishkala graduated from Andhra Medical College in India before pursuing a residency in Internal Medicine at San Joaquin General Hospital in Stockton, California. Following her residency, she became board certified in Internal Medicine and joined Kaiser Permanente in Santa Clara, California, where she spent seven years, from 2016 to 2023, as a primary care physician.
During her tenure at Kaiser Permanente, she focused her efforts on preventive care and managing a diverse caseload. Additionally, Dr. Gutta took on the role of educating and mentoring residents, sharing her knowledge and expertise to help shape the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Now, she is furthering her expertise with a fellowship in Endocrinology at Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, with a specific focus on thyroid cancer research. Dr. Gutta remains dedicated to providing compassionate care, advancing medical knowledge, and contributing to the well-being of her patients and the medical community at large.
Payal brings significant operational expertise and experience from a lengthy career in the aviation industry. She stands at the forefront of her department in her professional life, her leadership shaped by a rich tapestry of experiences in alternative healing as well. Her insights into the patient’s journey, both emotional and physical, stem from her broad engagement with varied demographics. Fuelled by an unwavering commitment to alleviate distress and suffering, Payal applies her specialized knowledge to offer solace and support on the path to recovery.
Sangeetha is a UK resident having been born and brought up in India. Sangeetha started her own financial services firm in London in 2012 advising both individuals and corporates in their financial planning requirements.
She has strong analytical skills which are important in her current role which involves gathering information, analysing the same information, and designing suitable solutions to meet investor needs during ever changing life stages. She achieves her objectives through her empathy and ability to be a good listener.
She is very passionate about healthcare. Sangeetha is very aware of the challenges faced by people in the current global socio-economic environment. Sangeetha is a driven individual and is willing and able to contribute her skills and ability to make a change.
Henry qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1989 with Ernst & Whinney (now part of EY), where he worked for 5 years in audit. He then left the accountancy profession to work in the regulation of financial services for 29 years, concluding with 7 years at the Bank of England. He brings substantial experience of the UK charitable sector from his time as treasurer of his local church from 1990 – 2000, where his duties included budgeting, preparation of regular financial updates for the leaders, payroll, and reclaiming tax on donations to the church.
He has lived most of his life in England, but he is comfortable with the international character of the charity, as he has lived in the USA, Germany and Switzerland, and speaks German, French and Portuguese.
Valerie was born and raised in Rockville MD and currently resides in Arlington VA. She is a six year PN patient. Despite developing this condition at 19 years old, she was able to graduate from Virginia Tech where she received a BS in Human Nutrition Foods and Exercise and a minor in Vocal Performance. At her day job, she works in Sales for Privia Health.
Her journey with PN has been difficult as a young adult trying to find her way in the world. However, her passion for her PN community has empowered her in many ways and she enjoys spreading awareness through outreach and social media. Prurigo Nodularis International has been a life line for her during many trying times and she hopes to see a day when PN patients get the recognition they deserve and for the pathogenesis of the condition to be fully understoo
Eva is a French native, having lived in the US and Mexico. With a business background, Eva has worked in strategy and communication before founding her first companies in 2007. Gradually specializing in the healthcare sector, Eva transitioned into the pharmaceutical industry in 2017, leading Patient Advocacy functions. A dermatology patient and a caregiver of a neuro-spicy kid, Eva hopes to contribute and help lift mountains for the Prurigo Nodularis patient community, and dermatology patients in general, with her energy, empathy and passion.
